The Perch
Your command center for vault health, quick actions, and recent activity.
What Is The Perch?
The Perch is the first screen you see after unlocking BoxOwl. It gives you a high-level view of your vault, surfaces one-tap actions, and shows what has changed recently. Think of it as a dashboard that answers three questions:
- How complete is my vault? — A progress ring shows the percentage of recommended fields you have filled.
- What can I do next? — Contextual quick-action buttons suggest the most useful next step.
- What happened lately? — An activity feed lists recent edits, syncs, and security events.
Completion Progress
The large progress ring at the top of The Perch represents your overall vault completion. It is calculated from recommended fields across all categories:
- Identity — first name, last name, date of birth
- Contact — at least one primary email and one primary phone
- Address — at least one address with street, city, and postal code
- Profile — at least one public or shared profile link
- Preferences — size system and at least one clothing size
Fields marked private still count toward completion. The goal is data richness, not publicity.
Tap the progress ring to see a category-by-category breakdown. Each category shows its own mini progress bar and a count of filled vs. recommended fields.
Quick Actions
Below the progress ring, The Perch displays up to three contextual quick-action cards. The suggestions change based on your vault state:

Tap any card to jump directly to the relevant screen. Dismissing a card does not prevent it from reappearing later if the condition is still met.
Vault Summary
The middle section of The Perch shows a compact grid of your vault categories with live item counts:
- Identity — singleton; shows a checkmark when filled
- Addresses — count + primary flag indicator
- Emails — count + primary flag indicator
- Phones — count + primary flag indicator
- Profiles — count of linked platforms
- Work History — count of past roles
- Preferences — singleton; shows a checkmark when filled
Tap any category tile to open its list or form screen.
Activity Feed
The bottom section of The Perch is a chronological feed of recent events. Each entry shows an icon, a brief description, and a timestamp. Typical events include:
- Vault edits — "Added work history at Acme Corp"
- Sync events — "Synced 3 changes to server" or "Sync failed — retrying"
- Security events — "Password changed," "New agent token created"
- Connection events — "Accepted connection from @alice"
The feed keeps the last 50 events locally. Older events are still available on the server and can be viewed in Settings > Activity History.
Pull-to-Refresh
Swipe down on The Perch to force a fresh sync and reload the latest activity from the server. This is useful if you made changes on another device or in the browser extension and want to see them immediately.
