Getting Started

1. Install the BoxOwl App

BoxOwl is available for Android. Download the APK from our secure server or sideload it directly.

1. Visit boxowl.me/download on your Android device.
2. Tap Download APK and allow installs from your browser if prompted.
3. Open the app and grant the requested permissions (biometric unlock is optional but recommended).

The Android app requires Android 8.0 (API 26) or later. We recommend enabling automatic updates so you always have the latest security patches.

2. Create Your Account

Your BoxOwl account is tied to a unique handle that becomes your public profile URL (e.g., boxowl.me/u/yourhandle).

1. On the welcome screen, tap Create Account.
2. Enter your email, a strong password, and choose a handle.
3. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) by scanning the QR code with any authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.).
4. Optionally enable Biometric Unlock in Settings for faster access.

Handles must be 3–32 characters and can contain letters, numbers, dots, and hyphens. Your handle cannot be changed later, so choose carefully.

3. Fill Your Vault

The vault is where your personal data lives. BoxOwl organizes it into categories:

• Identity — name, date of birth, citizenship
• Addresses — home, shipping, billing
• Emails & Phones — contact methods with primary flags
• Profiles — social and platform links
• Work History — employers, titles, dates
• Preferences — style, fit, size system for smarter shopping

Each field has a visibility toggle: public, shared, or private. Public fields appear on your profile page. Private fields are never shared.

4. Install the Browser Extension

The BoxOwl extension turns your vault into one-click form filling on any website.

1. Visit boxowl.me/download in a Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave).
2. Install the extension and pin it to your toolbar.
3. Tap the extension icon and log in with your BoxOwl credentials.
4. Visit any signup or checkout page and watch BoxOwl detect and fill the fields automatically.

You can also use Gift Shopping mode to look up a friend's public handle and autofill their shipping address.

5. Share Your Profile

Your public profile is a clean, shareable page that shows only the fields you mark as public.

1. In the app, go to Settings > Public Profile.
2. Preview how your profile looks to others.
3. Optionally add custom CSS to style your page.
4. Share your handle or scan the built-in QR code.

Every BoxOwl user automatically gets a did:web decentralized identifier, making your profile verifiable without relying on BoxOwl's servers.
